If you sell machine tools, forklifts, compressors, or packaging equipment into manufacturing plants, the real problem isn't the multi-threaded buying committee, that part's covered here. It's earlier: knowing which plants are even worth the drive before you've spent an afternoon finding out the shop is 12 people in a pole barn.

  • Search by facility type and process, metal stamping, injection molding, compressed-air-heavy operations, instead of a four-digit NAICS code that a 12-person job shop shares with a 400-person plant.
  • Draw the radius from your branch, not the state line. Service logistics are the real constraint, not administrative boundaries.
  • Match to the plant manager or ops manager by domain, then roll up the parent company. If you're already installed at one site, the fastest next sale is often a sister plant running the same process.

The square footage number is the one worth trusting most, and it's worth explaining why.
