State & County Selection

Create territories by selecting states or counties on the map.

State and County selection methods let you create territories that follow administrative boundaries. These are the most commonly used methods because they're quick and precise.

County Selection

When to Use

  • Your territory is defined by specific counties
  • You want precise boundaries that others can easily understand
  • You're working with sales territories that follow county lines

How to Select Counties

  1. On the Create New tab, select County Selection from the method dropdown
  2. The map displays county boundaries
  3. Click any county to select it (turns blue)
  4. Click again to deselect
  5. Select multiple counties to build your territory

County Information

When you hover over a county, you'll see:

  • County name
  • State
  • FIPS code (unique identifier)

Building Multi-County Territories

  1. Click counties one by one
  2. Counties don't need to be adjacent
  3. The system combines them into a single territory
  4. You can select counties from multiple states

State Selection

When to Use

  • Your territory covers entire states
  • You're responsible for a multi-state region
  • You want the simplest possible territory definition

How to Select States

  1. On the Create New tab, select State Selection from the method dropdown
  2. The map displays state boundaries
  3. Click any state to select it (turns green)
  4. Click again to deselect
  5. Select multiple states for multi-state territories

State Information

When you hover over a state, you'll see:

  • State name
  • State abbreviation

Switching Between Methods

You can switch between County and State selection while creating a territory:

  1. Change the dropdown selection
  2. Your previous selections are cleared
  3. The map updates to show the new boundaries

Note: You cannot combine counties and states in a single territory. Choose one method.

Mode Toggle

Both selection methods have a mode toggle:

Selection Mode

Click to select/deselect counties or states.

Pan Mode

Click and drag to move the map without selecting anything. Useful for navigating to a new area.

Tips for County Selection

Use Search

If you know the county name, use the search function rather than scrolling the map.

Zoom for Small Counties

Some counties are small and hard to click. Zoom in for more precision.

Check Borders

County boundaries can be subtle. Look for the highlight effect to confirm you're clicking the right county.

Deselect Mistakes

If you accidentally select a county, just click it again to deselect.

Tips for State Selection

Start with Core States

Select your primary states first, then add adjacent states if needed.

Review Before Saving

State territories can cover large areas with many facilities. Check the facility count before saving.

After Selection

Once you've made your selections:

  1. Enter a territory name (required)
  2. Optionally add a description
  3. Toggle "Set as Default" if you want this territory applied to searches automatically
  4. Click Save Territory

The selected counties or states are saved as a single territory polygon.
