State & County Selection
Create territories by selecting states or counties on the map.
State and County selection methods let you create territories that follow administrative boundaries. These are the most commonly used methods because they're quick and precise.
County Selection
When to Use
- Your territory is defined by specific counties
- You want precise boundaries that others can easily understand
- You're working with sales territories that follow county lines
How to Select Counties
- On the Create New tab, select County Selection from the method dropdown
- The map displays county boundaries
- Click any county to select it (turns blue)
- Click again to deselect
- Select multiple counties to build your territory
County Information
When you hover over a county, you'll see:
- County name
- State
- FIPS code (unique identifier)
Building Multi-County Territories
- Click counties one by one
- Counties don't need to be adjacent
- The system combines them into a single territory
- You can select counties from multiple states
State Selection
When to Use
- Your territory covers entire states
- You're responsible for a multi-state region
- You want the simplest possible territory definition
How to Select States
- On the Create New tab, select State Selection from the method dropdown
- The map displays state boundaries
- Click any state to select it (turns green)
- Click again to deselect
- Select multiple states for multi-state territories
State Information
When you hover over a state, you'll see:
- State name
- State abbreviation
Switching Between Methods
You can switch between County and State selection while creating a territory:
- Change the dropdown selection
- Your previous selections are cleared
- The map updates to show the new boundaries
Note: You cannot combine counties and states in a single territory. Choose one method.
Mode Toggle
Both selection methods have a mode toggle:
Selection Mode
Click to select/deselect counties or states.
Pan Mode
Click and drag to move the map without selecting anything. Useful for navigating to a new area.
Tips for County Selection
Use Search
If you know the county name, use the search function rather than scrolling the map.
Zoom for Small Counties
Some counties are small and hard to click. Zoom in for more precision.
Check Borders
County boundaries can be subtle. Look for the highlight effect to confirm you're clicking the right county.
Deselect Mistakes
If you accidentally select a county, just click it again to deselect.
Tips for State Selection
Start with Core States
Select your primary states first, then add adjacent states if needed.
Review Before Saving
State territories can cover large areas with many facilities. Check the facility count before saving.
After Selection
Once you've made your selections:
- Enter a territory name (required)
- Optionally add a description
- Toggle "Set as Default" if you want this territory applied to searches automatically
- Click Save Territory
The selected counties or states are saved as a single territory polygon.
